The KnowledgeIf you really want to know how to break into modelling you need the inside track. Shelley Whaits, a booker at Storm, gives us the lowdown. There's no one thing that makes a great model, it’s more a combination of little things that, added together, makes a spectacular package. Height: 5' 9” is average for our girls — though there is room for both smaller and taller girls. Symmetrical features and good bone structure also photograph well. A strong personality is key. It’s not just about being drop-dead gorgeous – confidence, energy and being full of life can be just as important. We represent a lot of very beautiful girls, and those with a great personality tend to have the most success. Having a good sense of personal style is vital. Models can go to 10 castings a day and meet stacks of photographers, stylists and booking editors each week – so standing out from the crowd is essential. Often the girls who make the best models are those who don't think they have what it takes. If I had a pound for every time I had scouted a girl who said ‘Me, really?’ I’d be a very rich woman! If you are interested in modelling, there's no need to get a portfolio done, simply take a few snapshots of yourself in to Storm. We see people between 10:00 – 12:00 and 14:00 – 16:00 Monday to Friday. Or, if you live too far away, send them to 5 Jubilee Place, Chelsea, London SW3 3TD – we look at every snapshot sent in. Please remember to include your contact details, age and height. Don’t spend your hard-earned cash on expensive or professional photos!
